Description
This is an user oriented tutorial, with both theoretical and hands-on sessions. A session for application developers about the use of gLite APIs and examples of applications succesfully ported on the grid is also scheduled. Only a basic knowledge of Linux user environment (Shell, SSH) and basic concepts of C++ and/or Java programming (only for the gLite APIs session) is requested by each trainee to follow the course.

The use of your own laptop to do the hands-on is preferred, so that you can continue to make practics even after the tutorial. The only software requirement is to have a SSH client installed on it.
In order to be allowed to connect to the INFN-CNAF network you must:
  • register to the workshop
  • bring with yourself a copy of your Passport or ID card
  • read the CNAF AUP
  • fill and bring with yourself the first page of the following document

ACCOMODATION

  • We have booked in advance 20 single rooms, from Tuesday 10th to Friday 13th of April at the Mercure Hotel . The reservation is valid until April 4th (first coming first served).
  • You ought to confirm your accommodation directly with the hotel (refer. "Cyclops tutorial")
  • The price ranges from 85 to 95 EUR per room/day, taxes and breakfast included

INTERNET ACCESS Wireless connection is available for all INFN people (personale certificate installed on the browser web is needed). For other people, an account will be created during the first coffee break (id card or passport is needed, see above).

GENERAL INFO INFN-CNAF is located in Viale Berti Pichat 6/2, Bologna, Italy; you can reach it by car, by train, or by plane. From the railway station, to reach CNAF, you can either walk (the distance from the railway station is approximately 1.2km), or you can take bus n.32, opposite the railway station: get off at the 3rd stop, cross the road and, keeping the right, walk for 50 mt.

ACCESS TO CNAF Once you get to Viale Berti Pichat 6/2, you have to walk ahead to the main buiding: on the left of the porter's lodge there is the elevator. First floor, on the right, and at the end of the passage there is CNAF. However, the day 1st and 2nd of the workshop will be held on the building in Via Ranzani 13/2, as shown in the MAP
