Description
Simulation and Data processing in High Energy Physics is blessed by natural parallelism at many levels of granularity: down to single particle in the case of Detector Simulation. This has allowed it to exploit farm parallelization as long as memory per core was abundant. This came with the cost of a poor usage of SIMD and SIMT architectures as farm parallelization is intrinsically incoherent. In this presentation, we will discuss the evolution of the software framework of the CMS experiment to adapt to HPC platforms where memory per core is scarce and where exploiting SIMD and SIMT is essential to leverage the full computing power available.
